When the Land Asks Us to Listen
Extreme Weather, Reciprocity and the Voices of the More-than-Human

While we were experiencing the above 30C hot days, CANAT were due to hold a day-long event on wild land on Dartmoor.As the temperatures continued to rise we decided to cancel the gathering, not only because of the impact on humans, but also the impact on the land itself and the more-than-human beings on that land.
We wondered what might change if, rather than asking "Can we still go onto the land?", we start asking "What does the land need from us today?" If the land were considered a participant rather than a place, what might it have said to us that day?
We listened, and we realised that the land needed to rest, just as much as we needed to rest during those hot days.
So this decision really got us thinking about who else is experiencing this weather, these conditions? What might the trees, plants, soil, fungi, insects, birds and other animals have been experiencing in this heat?What happens when we allow their experience to enter the decision making process - shifting the relationship from access to reciprocity?
To share thoughts and experiences, we would like to invite you all to a free online discussion on Monday 3rd August.
This is an open discussion to allow us to gather our experiences in one place, to explore what you may have sensed, witnessed, imagined and felt into during the hot weather. And how might our fellow more-than-human beings have felt?
Deep nature connection is not only about going 'into' nature; sometimes deep relationship means knowing when not to enter a place, and yet still being in relationship with our natural world.

Drum Circle Workshop
SUNDAY 30TH AUGUST 10am - 1pm
Community drumming, weaving the sounds of our drums with the song of the Earth. Join a friendly group for this fun, interactive drum circle, tuning into this energetic and animistic tradition of our land and ancestors.
During the monthly drumming circle, participants are invited to co-work with a seasonally curated selection of vibrational essences, most of which I have personally co-created with various plants, animals or birds. Experiencing the wisdom of these beings through drumming offers deeper insights into both the beings and oneself.
At the heart of our drumming circle is a very special Community Drum, which allows six people to drum with her simultaneously. I warmly encourage everyone to take their turn to connect-in and co-work with her. Together, with her, we provide the central heartbeat and direction of each weaving.
Drumming has been shown to help ease stress and anxiety, bring joy and boost mental health and well-being - so come with an open heart and mind and have some fun!
No prior experience is required. If you wish to attend but don’t have a drum, I always bring a selection along for participants to work with.

Autumn Wisdom in Practice

What might Autumn teach you if you took time to listen?
There is a particular wisdom held within autumn; it is not the exuberance of spring, nor the fullness of summer....it is the wisdom of change, of letting go, of remembering, of returning, and of recognising that endings are not necessarily an absence of life, but part of the continual turning of the wheel of life.
This September, I invite you to join me through Autumnal Wisdom in Practice - an 8-week online journey into Deep Nature Connection.
Beginning Tuesday 1 September, we will spend eight weeks developing a relationship with the autumnal world through two very different more-than-human teachers: 🌿 Rosemary and 🦇 Bat
Alongside this work, we will undertake a six-week curiosity exploration into death, beginning as autumn deepens and moving towards the ancient threshold of Samhain.
This isn't a course about collecting information about plants, animals or seasonal traditions, I am inviting you to develop a relationship, to notice, to listen, to become curious, to allow the natural world to become something we learn with, rather than simply something we learn about.
As always, I will be weaving together science, animistic understanding, felt sense, curiosity and direct experience.
