Bats have a reputation for darkness, emerging at dusk, navigating a world we cannot hear, sleep upside down and disappear into places most of us rarely see.

But what if we looked beyond the myths and misconceptions? What might we discover when we meet Bat through both science and animistic wisdom? 

In this talk, I’ll explore the remarkable biology and ecology of bats — their extraordinary sensory world, echolocation, relationships with their habitats and their vital place within our ecosystems.

I will also invite us to look differently, to consider Bat not simply as an animal to study, but as a more-than-human being with whom we share a living landscape. 

What does it mean to move through darkness without fear?

What might echolocation teach us about sensing what cannot immediately be seen?

What can this  creature - that spends so much of its life between worlds, between darkness and light, ground and sky, waking and sleeping - awaken in our own understanding?

What happens when a group of people come together, pick up a drum and find a shared rhythm?

Something shifts. The mind becomes quieter. The body begins to listen. We become aware of one another (and perhaps of the wider world around us) in a slightly different way.

Drum Circle Weaving is a fun, welcoming and experiential morning exploring the ancient relationship between rhythm, people, nature and the seasons.

Each circle has its own seasonal theme, weaving together drumming, rhythm, story, plant or animal wisdom and simple ways of experiencing the more-than-human world around us.

And there is something rather special at the heart of these gatherings... Our Ceremonial Moose Drum.

She is a community drum, made to be played by several people together. During each workshop, six people have the opportunity to come together around her, finding a shared rhythm and experiencing what happens when individual beats become one.

You don't need to know how to drum.
You don't need to have been to a drum circle before.
You don't need to bring anything other than yourself and a little curiosity. 

Drums and rattles are available, or bring your own. Adults and young adults 16+ welcome.
